Fashion loves a showman, but during the surreal spectacle at Simon Porte Jacquemus’ spring/summer 16 show last night, it seemed that the designer was more like the ringmaster of our dreams.
We can always count on #Jacquemus for never dropping the ball… #PFW pic.twitter.com/LrB5B24AMn — opening ceremony (@openingceremony) 29 Septembre 2015
The show opened with the designer’s young cousin, Jean, wearing bed clothes and pushing a gigantic ball of red linen around the room, before Jacquemus’ playfully deconstructed pinstripe tailoring, ribbed knitwear, sporty separates and innovative shirting took to the floor. The big red ball was Le Nez Rouge of the show title — The Red Nose — a symptom suffered by the designer after a summer of sadness, of crying and of sickness, endless nose-blowing.
A poetic response to his pain, the show closed with an emblem of hope: Simon Porte Jacquemus walked through the room in bed clothes like his cousin’s, leading a majestic white horse by his side.
