All of our faves from The Black List 2024. A Nazi-hunting Audrey Hepburn; two frenzied strangers meeting on the one night of the year pre-marital sex is legal; how the Tickle-Me-Elmo saved Wall Street. What do these things all have in common? They’re all scripts on this year’s The Black List, of course. Every year, hundreds of scripts are written by screenwriters that never see the light of day. Some of them wind up being too controversial to be made; others are just plain terrible, and some of them actually good (Black Swan was once on this list). Many of these scripts get voted on by film executives to become part of The Black List. Our personal favourite? The 13th Hour, Anna Klassen’s screenplay about a group of teenagers who repair a clock and discover an extra hour during which their actions have no consequences. Lou Howe & Todd Bartels’s Tony, which is currently attached to A24 and is a hero-origin story about Anthony Bourdain, is also on this year’s list.
