Apparently starring in multiple movies, supporting refugees in Uganda, and returning to the model life isn’t quite enough to keep Cara Delevingne occupied. The actress-model-activist has just added another entry to her stacked resumé: author. Cara excitedly announced on Instagram this morning that her debut novel Mirror, Mirror is a “twisty coming-of-age story” about four 16-year-old friends/bandmates “who are all trying to navigate the minefield of school and relationships.” She described the writing process as “life-changing.”
The book is due out in October, and judging by its pre-order page, it will be the perfect Halloween mood-setter. One of the main characters dies in “tragic circumstances” pretty early on, leaving her three friends — Leo, Rose, and Red — to deal with her death via reclusion, wild partying, and setting out to uncover the dark truth, respectively. For comparison, the page throws in a casual mention of Emma Cline’s excellent recent debut novel The Girls, which was in part inspired by the Manson murders. It also makes an explicit appeal to fans of the still-controversial 1971 addiction diary Go Ask Alice. It’s difficult to be in better, more bone-chilling company than that.
Cara has some quality YA companions IRL, too. While working on Paper Towns she became friends with teen fiction king John Green, who came to her defense after the true-life horror story that was her Good Morning Sacramento interview. Long story short: she does read the books. Multiple times.
