    Charleston Festival crowds

    Go to… Charleston Festival

It’s official, festi season is here (someone tell the weather forecast). But don’t dive right in with debauchery and wrecked tents at Glastonbury just yet. Ease yourself into the season with something a little more refined. This week Charleston Festival kicks off; heralding 10 days of talks, conversations and yes — of course — performances, all intended to make us imagine the world differently. Charleston is a festival but also a celebration of experimental thinking. This year the organisers are bringing together some of the world’s most exciting writers, artists and changemakers, from Sally Rooney to Susie Cave, to an idyllic location just outside Lewes. Expect jazz, history, poetry, food, drink and not hungover a missing tent pole argument in sight. Heaven. RL.

    The Square São Paulo

Head to… The Square São Paulo

Oi, amigas! Tudo bem? As anyone who’s ever read a YouTube comment section will know, Brazilian stans are pretty impassioned when it comes to getting their faves to come and visit their stunning homeland, and the latest to heed their call is Bottega Veneta. Tying in with the 10th anniversary of the brand’s arrival in the country, on Wednesday, the Italian luxury house will open the latest iteration of its cultural exchange series — The Square — in São Paulo, following salon-style activations in Dubai and Tokyo. This time, though, the format has significantly evolved. While previous editions took place in custom-built, canary green square structures, for this instalment, Bottega Veneta will be taking up an 11-day residence in one of the Brazilian megacity’s architectural jewels: Casa de Vidro, the modernist landmark designed by Italian-born designer and architect Lina Bo Bardi.

Taking over the spacious glass house and its lush tropical gardens will be a programme curated by Mari Stockler, comprising four themed pathways related to time, geometry and spirituality, Brazilian counterculture, and the roots of Bossa Nova. In addition, artists, architects, musicians and more from across Brazil will come together to discuss the salient themes Bo Bardi explored in her work, its enduring legacy, and its impact on contemporary Brazilian art and culture. “Casa de Vidro is one of my favorite places. It’s a real inspiration to meet here with artists from across generations, across disciplines, and across Brazil to celebrate Lina Bo Bardi’s legacy and the richness of Brazilian culture,” Matthieu Blazy, the house’s creative director, said in a statement. “Bottega Veneta is all about timeless style. With The Square São Paulo, we recognize how Lina’s ideas and aesthetics resonate to this day, always reminding us of the transformative power of design and culture.” If you happen to be reading this from São Paulo, then a stop at the Casa de Vidro between 27 May and 3 June is a must. If you’re unable to make like the meme and #cometobrazil, though, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that the event will be commemorated by a limited edition box set of four books, with one for each pathway.

Or watch… George Clooney’s return to coffee ads

It’s been a while since we saw George at his best (coffee ads). Luckily though, he’s returned, just in time for Cannes Film Festival, with a short that’s a cute rom-com-meets-heist short film in its own right. This time, he’s teamed up with two of Nespresso’s new faces, rom-com ingenue Simone Ashley off of Bridgerton and scammer-heist ingenue Julia Garner for the occasion. Give it the Palme D’Or tbh. RL
