Coach continues their onward, upward push, with all signs suggesting the brand will soon move to form a luxury conglomerate, à la Kering. The former president of department store Bergdorf Goodman, Joshua Schulman, will fill the newly-created role of brand CEO and president, effective June 5th.
“I have been very impressed with the evolution of Coach under Stuart Vevers’ creative direction and Victor Luis’ leadership,” Schulman offered in a statement. “I look forward to working with the talented global teams at Coach to build on this transformation, driving growth and relevance for the iconic brand across product categories, channels and geographies.” Business of Fashion report Schulman will answer directly to Coach Inc’s CEO, Victor Luis.
The heritage label spent much of 2016 injecting its image with a more youthful spark, bringing Selena Gomez into the fold as the brand’s face on a rumoured $10 million contract. In January, WWD reported Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters were creating a 15 piece collection for the house.
If all that weren’t enough, last month Luis stated Coach is also seeking to acquire other brands. “The priority, we’ve said clearly, is terrific brands where we can leverage the Coach know-how, which is especially strong in our ability to develop brands both internationally and domestically,” he told Business of Fashion. In January 2015, the label purchased shoe brand Stuart Weitzman. Which label will come next? Perhaps Joshua Schulman will now decide.
