Luckily Donald Trump has a “very good brain,” because he has been extremely busy this morning even without taking his daily security briefings. Some time between canceling a presser on his business and announcing his decision to appoint Dancing With the Stars contestant Rick Perry to head up a department (Energy) he famously wants to eliminate, the future president agreed to meet with with Kanye West at Trump Tower:
“We’ve been friends for a long time,” Trump told the New York Times following the unexpected get-together. When pressed to divulge what was discussed, he replied, “Life. We discussed life.” West, dodging questions about whether he planned to perform at Trump’s inauguration alongside Riff Raff and tortured spoken word artist Jon Voigt, said he just wanted to take a picture with the president-elect. He was also apparently the one who requested the meeting, in the interest of of “putting together coalitions.”
This comes after a volatile few weeks for the rapper, designer, and 2020 presidential hopeful. Last week West was spotted checking out a Rick Owens furniture exhibition in Los Angeles shortly after being discharged from the hospital, where he spent nine days being treated for extreme exhaustion and sleep deprivation. West was admitted at the end of last month following a rant during which he proclaimed that had he voted, he would have voted for Trump. H,owever making controversial declarations is hardly out of character for the man who once declared on live television that sitting president George W. Bush “hates black people,” and who attended a Hillary Clinton fundraiser earlier this year. It’s difficult to guess who’s feeling more slighted by today’s meeting — Dubya, Clinton supporter Jay Z, or every Kanye West fan with a Twitter account. Nothing makes sense any more and we really, honestly hope he’s okay.
