    Go to… Forwards Festival

Music icons and i-D faves Erykah Badu, Aphex Twin, Raye, Wesley Joseph, Olivia Dean, Obongjayar, Arlo Parks, Jockstrap and more — including many-time i-D coverstar Goldie, with a live ensemble — are taking to stages within the Bristol Downs this weekend for Forwards. The progressive festival is set to host an enticing variety of musicians, artists and activists who are leading the way in art, culture and pushing for social and environmental change across their music and information stages; the latter a platform for engaging talks, panels and discussions. Voices that are a must to check out on the Information Stage this weekend include Monroe Bergdorf (in conversation with Gal-Dem founder Liv Little), activist Vicky Spratt, artists Jonny Banger and Jeremy Deller and TikTok comedians Grace Campbell and Josh Berry, each discussing topics ranging from queer issues, sexism and the housing crisis, to inequality in media and politics on TikTok. Get one last use out of your wellies this festival season and check out one of the most innovative events of the moment. Get your tickets for the Friday and Saturday here.

    Stay at… Mama Shelter

If the original Mama Shelter East, nestled in-between artist studios and Père Lachaise cemetery, and subsequent Mama Shelter West in the 15th weren’t already i-D faves to stay in when visiting Paris, a third location – Mama Shelter La Défense – opened last year provides another trendy and calming refuge, this time just round the corner from Place de la Grande Arche. Expect panoramic views over the capital from the rooftop bar and kitchen. Rooms start at €99.

Wear… Rick Owens’ donut tube top

We’re not entirely sure what the perfect occasion is for this Rick Owens piece (£1270), which subsequently makes us think it might actually be the most versatile, ‘wear it everywhere’ item on the market. Supermarket? Funeral? The club? This is the piece for you. Buy it from SSENSE here.

    Big Lip by Pleasing

    Buy… Big Lip by Pleasing

Harry Styles’ lifestyle venture unveils its first lip balm (£25), and it’s one designed to give you soft, supple and — as the name suggests — BIG lips. Infused with pineapple extracts and cayenne pepper, your lips will be kissable and ready for cuffing season. Buy it here.

    Watch… Passages

Ira Sachs’ Paris-set story of a man discovering his bisexuality in the most masochistic way possible was so sexual that it was released without an age rating in the US. Now, it’s coming to the UK via MUBI. Catch it in cinemas from Friday 1 September.

    Listen to… Witch Trials

Rave heads, this is one for you! On September 18th, London-based Irish producer and DJ Witch Trials — a cult fixture on the British and Irish capitals’ four-to-the-floor party scenes — will release a new EP on his label MYRYRS. Titled Cannibal Culture, the six-track release melds influences spanning the gamut of contemporary dance music — from syncopated breakbeats to blaring house-y synths — culminating in a sonic journey that translates “the carnivorous force that kills, it’s the kindness of the crowd on the dancefloor, it’s also the power to continue to create,” Witch Trials says. Accompanying the release is also a brooding series of images shot by Oliver Smith that echo the EP’s murky themes, exploring notions of trauma, identity and mental health, exploring the liminal spaces between light and dark, memory and reality, presence and solitude. Lazy City by Rachel Connolly

    Read… Lazy City

Rachel Connolly, a writer who contributes to The New York Times Magazine and i-D, has immortalised her birthplace, Belfast, in her debut novel about a grieving young woman returning to the city after a death of a close friend. There, her protagonist meets old boyfriends, strikes up a knotty relationship with a newcomer to the town, and confronts her faith. A startling and assured novel from an exciting new writer. Buy it physically (£16.99) here, or on eBook or audiobook.
