Trick or treat, our material ghouls! This halloween weekend we don’t have any scares for you but we certainly have a lot of treats! There’s SKIMS Mens undies, Tekla Birkenstocks and pre-loved Burberry, oh my! We also have a new star-studded campaign from Loewe and collabs from Palace x Barbour, Barbour x Ganni, Bimba Y Palomo and Supreme x Stone Island. Finally filling up our little cauldron of goodies is Nensi Dojaka’s SS24 collection, Nicole Kidman’s fave Bottega Veneta bag and a Stefano Pilati residency at Fendi. It truly is a thriller night! Here’s what’s in fashion.
Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS is giving mens’ underwear drawers a revamp
Kim Kardashian isn’t done dominating the luxury women’s underwear scene with her SKIMS lingerie and shapewear, she’s coming for your boyfriend’s boxer drawer too. It makes sense, given men already made up 10% of SKIMS existing customer base according to Jens Grede, SKIMS co-founder, to offer a line specifically for the boxer wearers and it’s available in store and online now! Just in time for Christmas when you’ll inevitably get all those hard to buy for straight boys in your life some new socks or underwear. Amongst the elevated ‘for him’ offering are ultra-soft cotton, performance-enhancing sports and shape-remembering stretch options, each in sexy muted and earthy tones to give those off-duty jock vibes. And who better to reflect those vibes than to have a handful of muscled up sports legends in SKIMS Mens first campaign. In the Donna Trope lensed campaign Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr., NFL MVP Nick Bosa and NBA All-Star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander all strip down to seriously comfy-looking boxer trunks, tighty-whities, muscle tees and stretch leggings. Kim, make jockstraps next! TG
Fendi enlists Stefano Pilati for a Milano-Roma special
When it comes to fashion’s greats, Stefano Pilati is up there. Not only did he single handedly introduce the tulip dress as a runway mainstay, head up Saint Laurent for a healthy eight years and later hold down a post as head of design for Zegna’s menswear equivalent of couture, but he also led the women’s cashmere purveyor par excellence, Agnona, too. Did we mention he runs his own label, Random Identities? Indeed, you could say, he’s been around the block. Now, with his name indelibly marked into sartorial scripture, he’s giving us a taste – just a taste – of his fashion flair once again via Fendi’s newly launched “Friends of Fendi” scheme, a curatorial residency, if you will, for designers to showcase their take on the historied Roman casa. As the program’s inaugurator, he’s brought his own slinky vision, skewing La Dolce Vita occasionwear and accessories with an attenuated, tapered or lightly flared touch. Here, a V-neck leather slip is finished with a cherry-red suit skirt, while a black ball gown comes with squared off armholes and a slit along the flank. Chic! As for the bags, we’re talking woven leather Baguettes, plus Peekaboos splashed with a patent lick. “I am from Milan but there is a freedom in the Roman style that Milan does not have – there is always ‘more’,” said Stefano in a release. Indeed, this is Stefano at his most extra, and yet, his work still feels restrained in all the right places. Here for it? Waltz your way to your local Fendi. JB
Palace and Barbour team up for a best of British collab
Embodying two very different but undoubtedly connected sides of UK culture, Palace and Barbour have put their heads together for the sartorial crossover you didn’t know you needed. On one side, the South London-born stalwart for style-savvy skate rats; on the other, a centuried bastion of British outerwear, rocked by royals, football casuals and agriculturalists alike. The result? Waxed Bedale jackets, oversized quilting, gilt embroidery and spray-effect camo, plus a bevy of accessories to walk your anxious but dripped-out greyhound round the park. Yep, there’s a canine coat. First teased this week when Palace launched its tongue-in-cheek campaign, shot in one of the many Turkish-helmed Barber shops of London, it’s everything your modern-day bloke-corer needs to dress for a quick Friday fade or a few jars of Stella Artois at his local. Of course, the landed gents of middle-England will be staking their claim, too, in those golden-zipped gilets and trapper hats, perfect for a spot of clay-pigeon shooting. We don’t need to tell you that heritage brands are having a major moment now – not that they ever went out of favour – but when teamed with the Nu-Lad allure of Palace, it’s a softboi’s wet dream. Hitting Palace stores online and in-store from Friday 27 October, it’s going to fly. Hypebeasts outdoorsmen, brace yourselves. JB
Barbour and Ganni merge minds for their sophomore collab
If there’s one thing we know about the Ganni girl, it’s that she’s always game for an outing. This time, she’s taking on the great outdoors instead of her usual Scandinavian knees-up. Presenting… Barbour, Ganni-fied part two! Working with the classic wax treatments and quilting that define Barbour’s British history, the duo offer up a range of silhouettes, from bombers to cropped and long, below-knee pieces. It goes without saying that materials and fabrications as wrought as Barbour’s can be tricky to work with, especially if, as Ganni proposed, patchworking takes centre stage. Fortunately, the design team at Barbour had it covered, delivering a brushed fabrication that mélanged with the wax impeccably. Keeping it close to home, Barbour – still a family business – enlisted a closeby, Yorkshire mill called Abraham Moon to develop this and the family tartan used across the scarves. “I’d worked really closely with them over the years,” said Nicola Brown, Barbour’s head of womenswear. “And they have beautiful work ethics and history.” Elsewhere, the collab features the leopard print we know and love of Ganni, plus some very extra collars transposed onto Barbour’s corduroy. “For me, to work with a brand with such a strong heritage, it’s important to show you can mix aesthetics,” said Ganni creative director, Ditte Reffstrup. Mission accomplished, Ditte. Danes and Brits who love a wholesome hike followed by a cottage-core party, this is your uniform, launching on Friday 3 November 2023. JB
Nensi Dojaka drops her 90s and 00s inspired SS24 collection
Nensi Dojaka has become well-known and well-loved for her lingerie party dresses worn by the likes of Zendaya, Bella Hadid and Lucia in the second season of The White Lotus. However, the London based designer eschewed a runway presentation this season, instead opting to release a lookbook photographed by Drew Vickers. For SS24, the TikTok girlies will be happy to know that Nensi looked to the Y2K years for inspo. Less the glitter and the pastels and more the grunge of the era; something you could see 90s Winona Ryder wearing. Straight-fit, low-slung jeans in an Americana blue hue sit over lace trousers which flare out at the bottom, combining the androgyny of the 90s ad campaigns with the feminine sexuality of Nensi’s brand. Itsy-bitsy knit bolero cardis sit under strappy bras which elsewhere sit under boxy open blazers and tulle flares out from sleeves adding a sense of movement and dynamism. It’s not all straight-fits, loose fabrics and boxy cuts, though. And those skin-clinging dresses and bodycons Nensi is famed for are here too, the sheer fabrics becoming sheer sequins like the wearer has just stepped out of the ocean at sunrise, their wet body glistening under the morning light. With the many different cuts, fits and separates, it was an offering built to be patchworked together in your own unique and inventive way, and the result is a collection where you want it all. TG
Palomo Spain and Bimba Y Lola’s link-up collection at NYFW is available now!
One of the standout collections of this year’s NYFW was the brooding and sensual offering for SS24 from Palomo Spain. This was in part because designer Alejandro Gómez Palomo worked with fellow Spanish brand Bimba Y Lola on a sensual, rose-adorned selection of white, black and red garms that all who saw couldn’t get enough off. Well, summer has come early because those pieces have now been released as an AW23 capsule collection! Bimba Y Palomo features bushes of roses moulded into A-line dresses and hemming skirts and collars, satin, flamenco-inspired gowns fall as delicately off the shoulder as a petal and leather moto jackets, lace-up skirts, lacy tights and corsetry heighten the sexy energy. Snap it all up now from the Bimba Y Lola app or in stores. TG
How to cop Nicole Kidman’s fave new Bottega Veneta bag
🚨🚨🚨FAB NEW HANDBAG KLAXON🚨🚨🚨 Girlies, are you in the market for a fab new handbag? Of course you are! When aren’t you?! Anyway, the latest purse to leap right to the top of our wishlists comes courtesy of Bottega Veneta, who, this week, have finally delivered the Gemelli to its resplendently chic stores worldwide. Debuted on the runway at the Milanese house’s AW23 show back in February, what makes the Gemelli a total must is its sheer versatility, comprising two zippered half-moon compartments in supple intrecciato leather weave — one big, one small — joined by padded leather cord. What that means in practice is that it can be carried in many different ways: as a slouchy top-handle, insouciantly slung beneath the arm, as seen on the timelessly chic Nicole Kidman… the Gemelli-carrying possibilities are (almost) endless! Make haste and run to your nearest Bottega Veneta store to get yours… or save yourself the journey and, y’know, click here to cop. MS
Supreme and Stone Island have done it again
Just when you thought the streetwear bed fellows had exhausted their potential for white-hot collabs, they prove us all wrong. Ever since their first collection together in the halcyon days of AW14 – a time when collab culture was still in its infancy – the pair have been at it, reimagining Stone Island’s legendary jacket treatments in souped-up reworks such as SS16’s heat-sensitive trenches and SS19’s toffee wrapper shells. This time, though, Supreme has doubled down on its 90s roots even deeper, ushering in puffed-up continental ski jackets, stitched with washing instructions on the storm placket, and cropped leather bombers. Elsewhere, you’ll find trendier pieces like the reflective, make-believe denim sets and cobwebbed hoodies for gorp boys doing spooky szn. Oh, and if you’re feeling a little more paninaro, the bouclé cream cardigans with welt pockets are an easy way to get the badge in without looking too flashy. Winter is setting in, and that’s enough of an excuse to empty our bank accounts in the name of major fit pic potential. Available from Stone Island now and Supreme from Saturday 28 October, it’s not going to stick around long. Stoney archivists and Supreme collectors, take heed. JB
Marc Jacobs and Harmony Korine’s zine has arrived
For anyone that’s stepped foot in Marc Jacobs’ Heaven stores, you’ll know he’s a man with taste for the niche and esoteric. Little wonder, then, that Harmony Korine – the man who brought you Gummo, Spring Breakers and the screenplay for Kids – was his co-conspirator on this aptly off-beat zine, “Marc Jacobs by Harmony Korine”. Bringing the Marc’s AW23 collection to life, Harmony lenses a coterie of faces across generations, including everyone from Swedish vapourwave king Yung Lean, Euphoria’s Dominic Fike and It-girl comic-cum-actor Rachel Sennott to 90s horror’s favourite final maiden Neve Campbell and former i-D cover girl Mica Argañaraz. Replete with intimate editorials and the kooky, scrappy style we know and love Harmony for, it’s guaranteed cult status among doting art-schoolers and Dowtowners alike. And with just 300 available (and every 1 in 10 signed by Marc and Harmony), the race to nab yours before others do is on. Londoners, get down to Climax Books store stat; New Yorkers, try Dover Street Market or Bookmarc. As for you easygoing Los Angelenos, it’s pedal to the metal for Heaven. Otherwise, head to Marc Jacobs online. Fastest fingers first. JB
Buy or sell pre-loved Burberry trenches and bags on Vestiaire Collective
Do you have an old Burberry trench or a check pochette bag lying around? Well, Burberry’s new programme with high-end resale platform Vestiaire Collective means you can trade it in for credit and get yourself one of the new Daniel Lee designed garms. How does it work? Registered Vestiaire customers can request to trade in their pre-loved outerwear and handbags from the British house with the platform then offering a price. Once that has been accepted and the item shipped to Vestiaire, the garment will go through a rigorous authentication and quality control check before a gift card is then sent to you to spend on whatever latest Burberry fit you want! In turn, customers can then buy the traded in garments through Vestiaire, knowing it is for sure the real deal. Burberry themselves have already built up the pre-loved collection on offer, donating a selection of women’s heritage trench coats to the platform and with all profits then going to their longtime partner Smart Works, a UK-based charity offering high-quality interview clothes and coaching for unemployed women in need. Whether you’re looking to get a new Burberry coat for winter, or to pass on one of your beloved old ones to a new owner, head to Vestiaire Collective. TG
Dame Maggie Smith, Josh O’Connor and more front Loewe’s SS24 pre-collection campaign
There are few doing campaigns quite as hot as Loewe right now and their Juergen Teller shot images for their SS24 pre-collection are no different. Naturally, given it’s a Loewe campaign, the casting is both surprising and *chef’s kiss*. A list of names you would never have put together yourself and yet make perfect sense. In these gritty photos, Dame Maggie Smith is wrapped up in a shaggy trench coat, clutching a puzzle bag as she smiles at you from a street corner as if you’ve just got her to buy you a pack of cigs from the local off-licence. Elsewhere, actor Josh O’Connor, with feet out on main, looks cosy enveloped in a blanket and sinking into an old fashioned armchair, while his Challengers co-star Mike Faist sits with jeaned legs spread, staring into the camera. Jonathan Anderson knows how to get those gay Twitter clicks! Icon Dakota Fanning shows off her gainz with how many puzzle bags she can lift like dumbbells, and Taeyong looks ice cool with his oversized knit cardi and retro sparkly blackout sunglasses. Unsurprising for a Loewe campaign – which also features A24 actress Greta Lee, supermodel Fei Fei Sun and artist Rachel Jones – we want every single one of these images framed and hanging in our lounge ASAP! Birkenstock x Tekla’s new drop gives tranquil luxury
In recent years, Birkenstock has steadily won over the fashion crowd, carving out a niche as a go-to for resolutely chic yet almost indecently comfortable footwear, with their collaborations proving particularly popular. Following on from cross-pollinations with the likes of Rick Owens and Jil Sander, for their latest release, the German sandal-seller has tapped the oh-so-stylish Danish lifestyle brand Tekla, resulting in a muted, functionally-minded capsule of footwear and sleepwear. Inspired by notions of stillness, mindfulness and comfort, each piece has been crafted with tranquil downtime in mind – basically, the sartorial answer to a gong bath, or 10 minutes on Headspace. Marrying Birkenstock’s signature silhouettes with Tekla’s renowned savvy when it comes to colour and cloth, both the shoes and the PJs exude a sense of tranquil luxury (NB. not the same as ‘quiet luxury’, thanks!) that’s very welcome now that the long nights have started to draw in.
