There might not be much longer you can bury your head in the sand and pretend, somehow, maybe, pretty please, we’ll be staying in the EU. We can’t even pretend that leaving the EU means we’re going to be staying in the single market anymore. Or that leaving the EU means we’ll be protected by the European Courts of Justice. Or that the rights of workers from EU countries who live in the UK will be protected. Nope, not even the thousands and thousands who are keeping the NHS running. We don’t even need to reiterate the spike in racist crime since the referendum.
Now that Scotland have decided they really don’t feel like hobbling along for the ride after we’ve shot ourselves in the foot, we can’t even pretend that leaving the EU won’t mean the end of the UK too.
Basically leaving the EU will make us worse off, less secure, and more isolated. It will take years to actually leave the EU, and it will cost millions – money we could actually be spending on the NHS. Leaving the EU is really only of benefit to Nigel Farage’s ego, lawyers, and the crypto-fascists and their pals who edit our right wing tabloids.
So with all that to look forward to in the not too distant future, you have until 29th March to make your voice heard, before Theresa May pushes the big horrible Brexit button. Part of the 48 per cent? Or even part of the 52 per cent who felt that you were lied to when casting your ballot? Well, this Saturday, the 25th of March, you can make your voice heard as Unite For Europe are organising a march across London.
Unite for Europe have chosen the 25 March as it represents the 50th anniversary of the founding of the EU. Find more details at uniteforeurope.co.uk, and join us on the streets.
Go, make your voice heard, get involved. This is actually your last chance.
