    Read… BAO

Okay, so it’s not a work of fiction you can get really stuck into, but it’s compelling nonetheless. The brains behind cult London restaurant BAO have created a new cookbook that doubles up as a foodie’s perfect coffee table tome. Buy your copy here.

    Eat… Family Dinners at Caravel

If you live in or near London and you are a person who likes to eat good food, a place that will probably have (literally) floated onto your radar is Caravel — yes, the young East London restaurant set on barge on the Regent’s Canal. In the year or so since opening, it’s swiftly earned a reputation as one of the city’s chicest spots to dine — with a waiting list to match. With their latest initiative, that reputation’s only set to strengthen, with the Spiteri brothers opening up their kitchen to some of London’s buzziest chefs in the oh-so-fashionable spirit of collaboration. Running through late summer, ‘Family Dinners’ invites chefs including Rambutan’s Cynthia Shanmugalingam and Poon’s London’s Amy Poon to put on a series of dinners that celebrate nostalgic meals from their childhoods, with the first — hosted by Snackbar’s Freddie Jansen — taking place tomorrow. If that notice is a little too short for you, though, fear not! April 11th will bring a takeover by Max Halley of cult sandwich bar Max’s Sandwich Shop, on May 23rd, it’ll be Amy Poon’s turn, and Cynthia will be taking to the Caravel kitchen on June 13th, with tickets dinners available here.

    Watch… Countdown to Oppenheimer

As the world prepares for the OppenheimerBarbie off this summer, we’re quickly re-reminding ourselves of Christopher Nolan’s back catalogue; the brilliant films that have led up to Oppenheimer’s release. Across the globe, before 21 July hits, arthouse theatres will likely be staging their own retrospectives but the BFI is kicking things off early, and they’re going big. From March through to June, they’ll be bringing back Christopher Nolan’s movies and playing them on the biggest screen in the United Kingdom — often in 70mm too. Seek out your favourite here.

    Listen to… Ryan Beatty

We’ve followed Ryan Beatty since his debut album, the healing and brilliant Boy in Jeans. Now, after a change of label and a near-three-year break, he’s back with a new, third record, Calico, due 28 April. Preceding it is maybe the most beautiful song of the year so far: “Ribbons”. Cry when you stream it above, read our last interaction with Ryan here, and then follow him on Instagram for more news.

drive your plow play starring kathryn hunter

    Go to… Drive Your Plow

Olga Tokarczuk’s bewitching, macabre novel Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead is about an elderly environmentalist trying to suss out the source of the murders plaguing her tiny mountainside Polish town. Now, London’s Barbican is playing host to a staged version. Kathryn Hunter, who you might have seen as the terrifying Three Witches in Ethan Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, plays the lead role. Running until 1 April, before inevitably moving to a new theatre, you can buy your tickets here.
