    Wear… Lu’u Dan

Having worked under Phoebe Philo at Céline, designer Hung La is pretty well versed in creating statement clothing that can appease the every day wearer. His label Lu’u Dan (Vietnamese for “dangerous man”) has created some killer knitwear, so called “phat jeans” and lifechanging bellbottoms. Check it all out on SSENSE now.

    …and… Homecoming x Patta merch

If you spend much time on this website — or reading our stunning print magazine — you’ll probably be well aware of Homecoming, the annual Lagosian festival and cultural forum. Well, if you couldn’t make it to the most recent edition, staged earlier this year, fear not — you can still get the t-shirt! As well as the merch line that they created in collaboration with brands including Ambush, Stüssy and Cactus Plant Flea Market, you can also cop a brand new t-shirt, designed with Dutch streetwear brand Patta and Irish whisky distiller Jameson for Homecoming’s most recent series of events in Atlanta, London and Lagos. With sales proceeds to be directed towards the construction of a new skate park in Nigeria’s largest city, there’s little excuse not to go and cop one right now!

    Snag… Pathêmes

Marcelo Gomes’ debut monograph is an inventively formed insight into years spent travelling, taking pictures and creating memories that will one day be looked upon nostalgically. Formatted uniquely, the book is unbound, and consists of sheets from different paper stocks upon which the images are printed. There are only 1000 copies and you can buy one here, or alternatively head down to the ÉTUDES flagship store (14 rue debelleyme, 75003 Paris) on Wednesday 14 September from 6:30 to celebrate its launch and snag a signed copy.

    Watch… Crimes of the Future

Our king David Cronenberg is back with a nasty and weird love story set in a dystopian art world. Having premiered back at Cannes Film Festival, we called it a “perverted and erotic spectacle”. It bowed in the States earlier this summer, and now it’s the UK’s chance to see Kristen Stewart play a mousy researcher who quite fancies being cut open and probed by Viggo Mortensen. We support it! It hits cinemas this Friday 9 September.

    Read… Brother Alive

This story, of three children of varying backgrounds being adopted into a Muslim family, has received plenty of critical acclaim thus far. Written by Zain Khalid, it charts their movements with their conservative Muslim father to Saudi Arabia, and unpacks how these three young men must assimilate into a new world. Listen to… Merlyn Wood

For a long time, Merlyn Wood was the rambunctious and dazzling star of Brockhampton, but as the band prepare to go their separate ways, he’s lined up a new solo career. It kicks off with a revealing track about subjects we weren’t privy to before: namely, his addiction issues while in the band. The new track “ONE OF US”, a bold sensory assault, is where his new chapter begins. Stream it above and follow him on Instagram.

Go to… Real Corporeal and Shaniqwa Jarvis

Two killer exhibitions launch this week. First up: Real Corporeal in New York brings together industry legends — think Mark Leckey, Joan Jonas and Arthur Jafa — with younger artists, for a show that upends the idea of industry hierarchy. Head down when it opens at the Gladstone Gallery on 10 September.

Then, creating something of an “energetic seance” is the artist Shaniqwa Jarvis, whose new exhibition Sleep to Dream also launches this week. Comprising 17 full-bleed prints and a print on silk, the exhibition aims to capture the limbo space between the physical image and the ones we conjure in our dreams. It opens at SN37 on 9 September.
