Happy Monday! The new week is here and with it comes the chance to delve deep into some fresh culture and fashion. Here’s your latest look at the i-D Guide.
Wear… Sky High Farm x Balenciaga x Dover Street Market
Sky High Farm founder Dan Colen’s mission is to make it easier for those in need to access fresh and nutritious food. Part of that comes from fundraising, and what better way to raise money than to link up with luxury brands and the world’s greatest concept store to sell limited edition garms in support of it? In a campaign starring Nadia Lee Cohen, Sky High Farm have unveiled a limited edition denim collection co-created with Balenciaga. Do your bit and grab a special piece from the Dover Street Market website or its physical locations from today.
Snag… Skinlacq by Isamaya
Nobody does beauty quite like Isamaya Ffrench does, and with her latest line of eponymous skincare and beauty, she more than proves that point. Her Skinlacq is a triple hyaluronic acid serum with added glow. Use it as a post-cleanser base or as the final step in small doses, to give a glass skin effect. You can buy it exclusively from Selfridges here.
… and the CDG2 candle
If you’re looking for the perfect scent to accompany you this fashion week, Comme des Garçons’ inky and incense-heavy fragrance CDG2 also comes in candle form. Perfect for the showroom, or for convincing yourself your living room is a showroom. Buy it from Selfridges here.
Watch… Moonage Daydream
Brett Morgen solidifies his position as one of the best music documentarians around with Moonage Daydream. After the morose, yet formally inventive Cobain movie, Montage of Heck, he creates a technicolour tableau from the life of David Bowie. Watch it in UK and US cinemas from Friday 16 September.
Read… Which As You Know Means Violence: On Self-Injury as Art and Entertainment
No one gets celebrity better than writer, critic and i-D contributor Philippa Snow. Her first book – a thrilling work of cultural criticism about the peculiar place aestheticised violence occupies in contemporary art and culture – takes its name from a Hunter S. Thompson quote, from part of a message left on the answering machine of Jackass’ Johnny Knoxville. The book traces a connective line between Knoxville’s campy antics to Marina Abramović’s epic Great Wall of China-set breakup; from a Harmony Korine Letterman appearance to Logan Paul’s horrific ‘suicide forest’ vlog, dissecting the death-drive that seems to power so many of these efforts. You can snag a copy here.
Listen to… Lila Drew
The video for Lila’s new single “Bad Juice” is a wild affair, merging clay puppets, animation and aimless teen parties. It’s directed by Vincent Haycock, who’s worked with Florence + the Machine and Billie Eilish in the past. The song itself is rather good too — a chewed up guitar ballad about the idea of figuring shit out when the world feels like its shifting beneath your feet. Check it out above and follow her on IG here.
Go to… Overflo
This Sunday in South London’s Burgess Park, experience queer euphoria as Overflo kicks off. Focusing on bringing together queer, trans and BIPOC talent in one place, its founded by PXSSY PALACE co-founder, Nadine Noor Ahmad and BBZ co-founder, Naeem Davis. Head down to see them and many others light the place up. Tickets available here.
… and Sarah Sze
Marking her debut soloexhibition at the Gagosian in Athens, Greece, Sarah Sze’s work often looks like staring into a utopia through the fragments of a cracked mirror. Her latest works, varying from light projections to sculptures to oil paintings, are remarkable. If you haven’t seen her work before, you can catch it at the Gagosian until 20 October. More information here.
