    Off-White “Paperwork” boxes

    Snag… Off-White “Paperwork” boxes

Off-White’s foray into the beauty space was never going to be predictable. Their latest “Paperwork” boxes — incorporating scent and solid pigments for your skin or nail polishes, depending on which you choose — aims to enable wearers to express real creativity. With the Color Matter box, for example, you not only receive four nail polishes in different shades, but a selection of nail stickers and a custom Masters of the Universe action figure, with interchangeable heads, hands and fantasy weapons. The idea is that the art we put onto our bodies is just as playful as the child-like experience of creating stories with toys. Grab yours here.

    minari screenplay book

    and the A24 Minari screenplay

Everyone knows that, as well as being the leaders in interesting indie cinema, A24 know how to create books, clothes and, um, butt-plug candles, to complement their releases. The modest but excellent Minari, released in 2020, is next in line. Lee Isaac Chung’s Oscar-nominated film, about a Korean family resettling in the farmlands of America, has received the beautiful screenplay book treatment. Hardbound, with a grass green fabric cover, it includes the full screenplay in Korean and English, as well as photos that inspired the film. There’s also a moving, exclusive essay from poet Ocean Vuong inside too. The release is limited, so head to A24’s web store to buy it now.

    Watch… Inu-Oh

Dubbed “a siren scream of a musical: angry and beautiful, rapturously animated and highly infectious” by The Wrap, Inu-Oh premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2021 and is finally making its way to UK cinemas. The story of two ostracised friends — a dancer with unique characteristics that have always been hidden from the world and a blind musician — living in 14th century Japan is a mad-hatter work of art. If you’re missing your Ghibli fix, this equally zany, if a bit more brash work of Japanese animation might hit the spot. It arrives in cinemas in the UK on 30 September.

The Book of the Gaels by james yorkston

Read… The Book of the Gaels

A poet stricken by grief in 70s west Cork is the protagonist of musician James Yorkston’s second novel, The Book of the Gaels. The tale, told from the perspective of his 10-year-old son, follows a matriarch-less family as they travel from their simple surroundings to Dublin, after a letter from a publisher hints at the idea of a more optimistic future for them. It’s a moving portrait of poverty, loss and family. Buy it here.

    Listen to… Christian Leave

Escaping the oppressive clutches of social media fame is no easy task, but former Vine star Christian Leave’s music is some of the most exciting of its kind coming out of the US alt-pop scene right now. His 2021 EP Heavy Hitting Hurts My Head is pitch perfect; the new track “Why Not?” is equally special. He says it’s about “finding yourself sunken into complacency, identifying it, and not having the motivation to change it”. Watch the music video above and follow him on Instagram here.

    … and Sam Gellaitry

Having proved his positioning as one of Britain’s most talented DJs and producers, Scotland-born artist Sam Gellaitry continues to branch out into new realms of creating. His latest mixtape VF VOL II just dropped, following his recent link-up with Pink Pantheress. Check out lead single “The One” above and follow his IG here.

    alaia cafe

    Go to… Cafe Alaïa

Saunter behind the Alaïa boutique during fashion week and you’ll find Cafe Alaïa, a spot that takes it cues from the famous dinner parties of Azzedine. Serving “the delicacies of Alaïa’s table inspired dishes from Portugal, Spain and Italy”, you can head down to 5 rue de Marigna to check it out.

… and A Storied Ground by Jermaine Francis

We’ve long associated images of the pastoral British landscapes with images of whiteness. But this typically historical vision of Britain is incorrect. In A Storied Ground, Jermaine Francis’ latest photography exhibition, he “obliges the viewer to reconsider who is considered a natural inhabitant of the British landscape”. The results are beautiful, and can be seen at galleriepcp in Paris from 29 September until 19 November. More information can be found here.
