… and Polaroid’s new Reclaimed Blue 600 camera film

Any avid photographer should check out Polaroid’s new camera film Reclaimed Blue, made completely by accident. Brian Slaghuis, an in-house chemist was experimenting with different chemicals when he realised that adding Tertiary Butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), often used in black-and-white photography, to normal colour film paste causes the cyan tone to take over the photo, allowing for a stunning new hue to capture shadows, highlights and details. “Polaroid’s DNA is rooted in experimentation and unlocking the unexpected. Reclaimed Blue captures that essence. It’s science mixed with human perseverance and remarkable accidents,” Oskar Smolokowski, Polaroid’s Chairman said in a statement.

What’s more, the film doesn’t use any dye to create the effect and uses out-of-spec materials (hence the “Reclaimed” in the name”), making it have less wastage and better for the environment! Experiment in capturing the world in this unique perspective with the limited edition film, available from the Polaroid store now.
