Internationally renowned and revered designer Stefano Pilati is curating an exhibition on three decades of menswear, titled “EVOLUTION — INVOLUTION — REVOLUTION.” Opening at Pitti Uomo in Florence, next June.

The exhibition will be a look at menswear through Stefano’s eyes. As the press release explains, “It is based on first-hand experience, passing through flashbacks, impressions, collaborations and rejections. Its aim is to immerse the visitor in the multifaceted reality of men’s fashion of the last three decades, depicting its dialectical relationship with a constantly evolving social context.”

If we’re going to be looking through the lens of anyone when it comes to menswear — and fashion in general — Stefano is an ideal choice. The designer’s been working in the industry since the 80s, working at Giorgio Armani, Prada and Miu Miu, before being made creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, and later Ermenegildo Zegna.

Lapo Cianchi, Secretary General of Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery, says that men’s fashion “has long been overlooked in Italian and international cultural circles,” and that they chose Stefano because they found “his concept of the fashion system to be fascinating — it is eccentric, conflicting and almost cynical. It’s a precise point of view where the obsessions and reflections of a collector merge with those of a designer and an individual who believes in dressing well.”
