Hey, remember when Lorde had the flu and still performed an interpretative dance at the MTV vmas in a party dress and trackies? Remember Lorde’s incredible tribute to David Bowie? Remember when Lorde dropped three songs in a weekend? You’d be forgiven for remembering these things and thinking: “wow, it really does seem like there is nothing this woman Lorde cannot do”. And you would be right. Here is a video of Lorde covering the late, iconic Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody, as proof of that.
Currently performing in Australia as part of her Melodrama tour, Lorde congratulated the crowd on their recent historic same sex marriage vote, before launching into the 80s banger, replete in a rainbow flag. As you do. “I’m so proud of you”, she told the crowd in Sydney as she finished the world’s greatest sing-a-long. The concert was Lorde’s penultimate show of the year, finishing up the 2017 leg of her tour in Melbourne last night.
What’s most exciting about this whole thing is that there are four weeks and six days left of 2017, which is plenty of time for our Lorde and saviour, while taking a break from touring during the holidays, to perform yet more covers, perhaps collaborate with Stevie Nicks, maybe become President. It is Lorde after all, she knows no limits.
