Ahead of two sold out Brixton Academy shows later this month, Justice release a new take on Pleasure from their latest album Woman, and with it, this magnificent video. It’s wild, it’s sexually explicit, it’s beautiful. Directed by Alexandre Courtès of Division, whose CV includes The White Stripes’ hypnotic video for Seven Nation Army and the design of Daft Punk’s actual helmets, you know it’s something special.
“Xavier and Gaspard had a concept in mind of a supernatural love scene: an extrapolation of feelings during sex, a symbiosis,” Alexandre says of the project. “For a long time, I’ve wanted to play with strong vivid colours and bright tubes that travel through the bodies of characters… and they liked the idea too. We ended up shooting a bold, sensual sex scene, with lavish colours.”
While very cool, the video gets kinda freaky too, with glowing E.T. style veins, and shit getting so hot that, with a flash of white light, the entwined couple become part of an abstract cosmic explosion. Have you ever loved someone so much that you got mad that you couldn’t physically merge into one violently happy being? ‘Cause these guys go on to achieve just that, and it’s not pretty. It’s doughy and squishy and we soon discover that their exploits have created an actual human baby. Magic.
