Hiroshi Fujiwara goes beyond fashion for Moncler x FRGMT

The latest Moncler Genius project takes cross-industrial collaboration to another level… with robots.

Since its launch in 2018, Moncler Genius has demonstrated time and again the power of collaboration in the luxury brands industry, working with designers to present innovative modes of curation, communication and creativity. In particular, the brand’s regular collaborations and partnerships with FRGMT demonstrates a clear resonance between the DNA of both companies, giving rise to remarkable products.

This year, Moncler Genius is entering a new phase. Focusing on human creativity and imagination, it seeks to transcend the traditional collaboration model — the fusion of two brand DNA — to become a platform for integrated co-creation across different industries. The goal of this platform is to transcend the bounds of fashion, creating a space for the intersection of art, design, entertainment, music, sports, and culture. “Since we started working with Moncler Genius, they’ve continued to push the envelope by not only evolving as a fashion brand but also as a platform,” says Hiroshi Fujiwara, the legendary designer behind FRGMT, who has spearheaded many successful collaborations with Moncler. In his view, the secret to these ongoing accomplishments is actually quite simple. “In my experience, great results come from having a great team. I’ve been lucky enough to work with many fantastic teams, including on this project.”

On 20 February 2023, Moncler Genius will stage a live show called “The Art of Genius” to showcase this year’s lineup of co-creators. The event is a showcase of creativity, to which co-creators will bring their unique brand visions in a spectacular display of concepts and collections for 2023. Through the platform, visitors will be able to experience this for themselves first hand.

“When I heard about the event, I was intrigued by the focus on creativity and the creative process rather than the end product,” says Fujiwara enthusiastically. “I hope to offer a unique firsthand experience for everyone through this event.”

So, what exactly will FRGMT be unveiling? We’ve actually just been given a sneak peak at the project in an Instagram post by Moncler: a brand-new, state-of-the-art robot. In the video, we see a mechanical hand caressing an adorable robot named “Lovot”. It’s a classic Fujiwara approach — taking a conventional fashion concept and breathing life into it from a different angle.

“As technology evolves, people expect more from robots, with fierce competition for functionality,” the designer tells us. “But Lovot deliberately does the exact opposite. It doesn’t do anything. It’s just cute. And I like that — it’s in the FRGMT DNA.”

There’s much to look forward to at The Art of Genius, with its immersive experiences and performances showcasing a host of creative visions. Why did Fujiwara choose to exhibit Lovot, which deliberately rejects the pursuit of functionality, as his artistic vision? All will likely be revealed at the event.
