There are few people in fashion who wield as much power and influence as Anna Wintour. Over her forty-odd years in the business, she’s established herself as one of the most decisive voices around and been instrumental in helping to develop and promote the careers of some of the world’s most brilliant, loved and controversial designers. Talents like Sarah Burton, John Galliano, Christopher Bailey and Christopher Kane have all been supported by the editor and, with her platform, she continues to assist a new generation of promising creatives.
In 2008 Anna was awarded an OBE, or Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, an honour also bestowed on Victoria and David Beckham, among others. Now, nine years later, she has been recognised with a DBE (Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order), a higher gong for her ongoing contribution to the arts and culture. Travelling back to London to receive her award from Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, Anna Wintour looked trademark immaculate in a long pink Chanel coat and Manolo Blahnik heels as she revealed a rare smile standing next to her proud daughter.
