Simon Porte Jacquemus has announced a major new project in Marseille, the nearest city to his hometown Salon-de-Provence in the South of France. Titled Marseille Je T’aime, the project consist of exhibitions at two separate Marseille galleries, a public runway show dubbed “The Santons of Provence” (after traditional local miniature clay figurines), and a book, called Marseille, with exclusive images from contemporary artists, painters, and photographers.
The first exhibition, titled Maisons and Archives, will be at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) May 12, 2017, to January 14, 2018. The second, titled Images, will be at the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (MuCEM) May 13 to July 31, 2017. MuCEM will also host the public runway show “The Santons of Provence” on May 13.
After posting a cryptic announcement earlier today, Simon Porte Jacquemus followed up with a video teaser for the project, writing, “I’m very happy to announce you Marseille Je T’aime / 2 museum exhibition / 1 public fashion show / 1 exclusive book about Marseille featuring many worldwide artists. Start May 2017! Special thanks to mmmm [Maison Méditerranéenne Des Métiers De La Mode] for the invitation.” Watch the trailer, below.
