While the wait for The xx’s third studio album I See You may seem unbearably long, a respite has come in the form of a new video. On Hold‘s visual, directed by longtime i-D contributor Alasdair McLellan and shot in Marfa, Texas, sees the band live out the American dream. Expect: Empty diners, muscle cars, football players and cheerleaders in love. Speaking of the decision to use Marfa as the location, the band called it “a very special place to us, where we wrote and recorded some of our new album,” and choosing McLellan as someone “whose work we all adore.”
The video comes after news the band have set the record for the longest-ever run of sold-out shows at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. Fever pitch for The xx’s return is certainly high. Press play on the video below and cross one more day off your XXmas advent calendar (only 47 more days to go!)
