Press play on the new releases we've had on repeat this week.

    Cartae, All I Have

This one from newcomer Cartae has a a little of Bat for Lashes’ Daniel about the verses and the sort of pleasing buoyancy that marked True-era Solange in the chorus. It’s been produced by Ragz Originale of Skepta Shutdown fame and if none of that sells it to you we don’t know what will.

    Justice, Fire

We spoke to Gallic dance duo Justice the other day and, as well as being almost unfeasibly cool, they said some interesting things about their “friendly” new record, Woman (out today). “We’re releasing a third album and, of course, there’s no hype anymore, we’re not a new sensation but there’s no rejection either,” said Xavier. “Justice is just somewhere out there, part of the musical landscape.” They can speak French but, these days, they just let the funky music do the talking.

    Pup, Sleep In The Heat

Those Stranger Things kids are the future and we advise snapping one up for your music video right away. With Millie Bobby Brown and now Finn Wolfhard already taken, there are just a few left. Collaborating with Toronto punk rockers PUP for the second time, Finn plays the singer of a suspiciously young band living on the road, playing house parties and having all kind of misadventures in this follow up to 2014’s Guilt TripThis one seems to be an ode to an ode to family pets loved and lost.

The Weeknd, I Feel It Coming

I Feel It Coming is one of two new songs The Weeknd has chucked out today as a precursor to his upcoming third studio album (the other is the less-good-but-still-quite-good Party Monster). Second collaboration with Gallic duo, Daft Punk, it’s warmer than previous effort Starboy and has a nice bit where the robots have a sing. “I can feel the heat between your legs,” croons the man born Abél Tesfaye. Don’t worry, a bit of hydrocortisone cream should take care of that.

Born Dirty & Jakwob, Blind When I Dance ft. Jaw

Featuring French vocalist Jaw, this team effort is the pan flute heavy house tune you never knew you needed. Play loud.

    Saya, No Pressure

We first became aware of Saya when her debut single Wet Dreams shot straight to the top of Spotify’s Viral Global Chart earlier this year, racking up an impressive 3.2m plays in the process. A 21-year-old singer weaving fusionist pop for a fusionist pop world, No Pressure is the cooly anthemic follow-up to last month’s Cherry Bomb and establishes the Toronto native as pop’s most promising nocturnal emission.

    Anna of the North, Us

There’s something about Anna of the North, and it’s not just her nice collection of pristinely kept white clothes and fit friends. Soft and warm with the right amount of twinkle and a consistent pink colour palate in her artwork, someone really should take this girl to Frank’s bar in Peckham. Bagsy.

A Tribe Called Quest, We The People….

In case you’ve been living under a rock the last week, the hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest chucked out their first new album in 18 years featuring, not only the original line up, but also a stellar cast of guests including Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, Jack White and Busta Rhymes. Recorded prior to the passing of the late great Phife Dawg, first single We The People… is both poignant and politically charged, an important song by a very important group.

    DESSERT, Eyes Wide Shut

“Thank God it’s Friday!” opens the new one from mystery California band DESSERT, echoing our sentiments perfectly. With another cute baby picture for artwork, this whole package is exactly what we need after the week we’ve had.

GIRLI, Fuck Right Back Off To LA

Bright pink opinion divider GIRLI is at it again with her candypop storytelling, this time venting about the convertible-driving dick that wronged her. Note to self: think twice before pissing this one off.
