Despite suggestions the Elvis themed ceremony was a piece of performance art, there is no denying this is an original work of oddball love.

Actors Mia Goth and Shia LaBeouf have been together since they co-starred in the 2012 film Nymphomaniac: Volume II. After three years of dating they got engaged, and now it appears they’ve married. For most couples that’s the happy, although not hugely surprising, progression of a loving relationship. But for Mia and Shia — who has spent recent years engaging in performance art pieces that melt into his regular life — things aren’t that simple.

The wedding took place at the Viva Las Vegas chapel in Nevada, was officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator, naturally, and live-streamed on TMZ. Mia arrived in a vintage pink convertible, also driven by an Elvis impersonator, and wore a dress and lace veil that appeared to reference the King’s former wife Priscilla’s wedding look. Their vows included Elvis themed promises to “adopt each other’s hound dogs,” “never wear their blue suede shoes in the rain,” and “always be each other’s teddy bear.”

With Shia’s long history of performance art, many media outlets have suggested this unorthodox ceremony could be his most recent piece. In the name of art the actor has previously worn a paper bag over his head that read “I’m not famous anymore,” locked himself in an elevator for 24 hours with strangers, and broadcast himself re-watching all his films in a public cinema.

Whether their intentions were more than matrimonial, the wedding was legally binding, and we’re pulling for them. Throughout the ceremony both were visibly moved to tears and brimming with joy. Hey, who said love has to follow a style guide? Certainly not these two.
