Since its inception at the bottom of the globe a few years ago, New Zealand’s Lonely Lingerie has been encouraging body positivity amongst megababes all over the globe. Just last month, the brand tapped Girls stars Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke for a beautifully low-key photo shoot in a friend’s apartment. For its fall/winter 16 campaign, no less than nine women from varying walks of life have stripped down for a powerful new portrait series shot by June Canedo. They include both longtime Lonely (and i-D) faves plus plenty of new recruits, including ballet-dancing online girl guru Anna Collins, Art Hoe founder Gabrielle Richardson, body positive model Paloma Elsesser, transgender model Aurel Haize Adogbo, and Canedo’s mother Rogeria, who flew to New York from South Carolina to lend her face (and impressive abs) to the project.
“We shot nine women ranging from the incredibly talented writer Karley Scortino to June’s amazing mother — to me, all women equal; all beautiful, inspiring women that should be celebrated,” stylist Zara Mirkin said. “I just want women to accept who they are and appreciate what they bring to this world and very importantly be proud of what they look like — any size or skin color.” Lonely designer and founder Helene Morris added that the campaign aims to “celebrate individuality” and “inspire a community of like-minded individuals — independent women who can collectively say they are proud to be themselves.” As always, the images have not been retouched.
