Gorillaz have shared a multimedia book on Twitter called The Book of Noodle. It details the journey of the virtual band’s guitarist Noodle as she tries to reach safety following an “attack on Plastic Beach” — the fantasy location their third studio album was named after. The story unfolds over a number of Tweets, hinting at the concept (and virtual location) of a possible new record. In the tale, Noodle must confront a shapeshifter named Mazuu as a narrator slyly notes “finding a shapeshifter is like looking for a beard at an Arcade Fire concert.”

The virtual band, led by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, haven’t been seen since their 2011 album The Fall, which was recorded entirely on Albarn’s iPad. This theoretical upcoming album would be their fifth, and fans are already speculating the project will also be titledThe Book of Noodle. It’s likely to be a more formal affair than the iPad-recorded album — more akin to their feature-packed record Demon Days. De La Soul’s Pos has already confirmed his group have spent time in the studio with Albarn, and so has Snoop Dogg. Read The Book of Noodle here.
