Back in April, ASOS launched their Fashion Discovery initiative aiming to uncover the next generation of talented designers. After over 600 applicants sent in their work, it has now been reduced to 12 emerging brands chosen by a judging panel including i-D’s very own Senior Fashion editor Julia Sarr-Jamois, the CEO of ASOS Nick Beighton, Sharmadean Reid of WAH Nails and more.
The lucky finalists present an eclectic range of styles. Presenting menswear is Liberty Rose, a luxury knitwear designer who based her first collection on grime music and the London riots, running alongside contemporary British brand Alarleo, and Unknown LDN who are bridging the gap between skater streetwear and high-end fashion. Flying the flag for womenswear is sci-fi-meets-minimal label Hanger, latex lingerie designer Elissa Poppy and colourful energetic brand Typical Freaks as well as the sleek designs of We Are Kin, G.F Hawthorne who experiment with bold prints and the couture-esque styles of Sydney-Davies. In addition, there are also two talented unisex brands submitting gender fluid collections; urban-luxe Borderline and 90s style Two. And last but certainly not least is playful accessories designer Mormo – think Monsters Inc. meets luxury.
Two winners will be selected from the final twelve and will be awarded with 12 months of support and mentoring from ASOS, £50k as well as being sold globally on the ASOS website. Before the judging panel have their say, ASOS want you to tell them what you think. Take a look at the finalists here and support your favourites now!
