'King Cobra' is based on the real life story of murdered gay porn producer Bryan Kocis.

In 2007, gay porn producer Bryan Kocis of Cobra Video was found murdered at his home. He’d been stabbed 28 times, had his throat cut, and then his house was burned down, presumably to destroy evidence of the murder. The motive for the grisly killing, according to the police, was to make a million dollar movie staring Kocis’ gay porn golden boy, Brent Corrigan, who was contractually obliged to only work with Kocis.

This is the basic premise for James Franco’s new film King Cobra, based on the true story. Kocis is played by Christian Slater, and his murderers by James Franco and Keegan Allen. Having just premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, King Cobra has now got its first trailer, and it’s everything you could hope for in a film featuring James Franco, murder, and a behind-the-scenes take on the gay porn industry that might just rival Boogie Nights.

Franco rather infamously once stated he was “gay in art and straight in life,” and this is the second time the actor has worked with King Cobra director Justin Kelly to be explicitly gay in his art. They’d previously worked together on I Am Michael, a film that told the story of a gay rights activist who became a Christian minister.

The trailer for King Cobra looks equally provocative, gloriously lusty, and suitably OTT.
