Gucci Mane is a free man at last: he took off his ankle monitor last week, as the final leg of his 39-month prison sentence ended. Even under house arrest, Gucci was prolific. He recored and released an entire album, and starred in a Harmony Korine-directed short film for Supreme. As it turns out, that’s not the only project the pair are working on.
In a recent conversation with GQ Guwop revealed he will star in Korine’s upcoming film The Trap, set in the Miami music scene.”Harmony is my close friend, so it was easy. He’s super creative,” Gucci said. “Me and him work good together because we just freestyle shit, both of us don’t have no rigid mind state when we bring something to life. I love to act.” He’ll join Benicio del Toro, Al Pacino and James Franco in the film.
It will be Gucci’s second time working with Franco: they starred together in another Korine project, Spring Breakers. “It was just a great experience being in Spring Breakers,” Gucci recounts, “and it was just the beginning.” The rapper was alluding to The Spot, another movie he’s set to produce and star in. Gucci says it will be released towards the ed of 2016. If that wasn’t enough, he’s also signed his first book deal. Publishing house Simon & Schuster say the memoir will recount “the life and times of the artist and man, chronicling his youth, ascent to the top of the Atlanta trap scene, incarceration, struggles with addiction and personal rebirth.” We suspect 2017 will be Gucci’s busiest — and biggest — year yet.
