Last year, fans of the late singer Selena Quintanilla started a change.org petition calling on MAC Cosmetics to honour the icon with her own collection. Before her death in 1995, Selena was a huge global star and has since gone on to influence artists such as Beyonce, Drake, Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry — Selena Gomez was even named after her. As the 20th anniversary of her passing approached, fans saw a MAC collection as the perfect way to remember her and her signature style.
MAC loved the idea, and agreed to get to work on the project. A year on, and the first glimpse of it has been released. Created in collaboration with the singer’s sister, Suzette, it includes a range of lipsticks and eyeshadows in perfect earthy 90s colours, as well a contour brush, eyeliner and mascara. The shades are named after her hit songs, and the look is completed with throwback purple packaging and finished with Selena’s signature.
The collection will go on pre-sale for MAC Select members on September 28. The rest of us can get it online on October 1, and in store from October 6.
