Kim Gordon has released a lot of music in her 30-plus year career, but none of it has ever actually been under her own name. This week, though, she’s changing direction, releasing “Murdered Out” as Kim Gordon. The track was produced by Justin Raisen (who has worked with Sky Ferreira and Angel Olsen) and features Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint on drums. The song is a meditation on the color black. In a statement released with the song, Gordon explained that after moving back to L.A., she became aware of “more cars painted with black matte spray, tinted windows, blackened logos, and black wheels.” She saw it as the “reclaiming of a corporate symbol of American success, The Car, from an outsider’s point of view.” Finally concluding that the shade is an expression of purging the soul, and refusing to participate in an “It” look.
Well, it’s not like anyone was expecting a love song. Check it out below.
