Press play on the ten new releases we've had on repeat this week.

    BIRTHDAY, Night Rider

Named after the venue in which they first met back in 2014, London duo BIRTHDAY rule. With Do It All The Time and We Need To Talk already out and about and impressing people all over the shop, their latest offering is a welcome addition full of laid back guitar and hazy vocals. Our only wish is that the adorable artwork was also a super slow-mo video of lone crusader baby Luka, fighting the forces of evil from his indestructible snowmobile.

    Jenny Hval, Conceptual Romance

‘Woke up high on madness, a sexual holding pattern stuck in erotic self oscillation,” sings the very good Jenny Hval on new single, Conceptual. Don’t worry, Jenny, we’ve all had Wednesday mornings like that.

    Vince Staples, Prima Donna

Not impressed by the ass surrounding him in his mega music video, Vince Staples climbs into the devil’s taxi and descends into a trippy kind of hell where nothing is quite what it seems. At just under 10 minutes long, it’s the best short film we’ve seen all week. Directed by Nabil, obviously.

    Daniel Woolhouse, What’s That Sound?

FKA Deptford Goth casts aside his previous moniker for a release under his own name of Daniel Woodhouse. What’s that sound? he asks. Only the South Londoner’s most sublimely uplifting release to date.

James Blake, Timeless ft. Vince Staples

Someone’s been busy. Timeless proper was brilliant but let’s face it, it was always crying out for a few verses. The man of the moment delivers.

Soft Hair, Lying Has To Stop

Friends since they toured together back in 2009, Sam Dust from Late of the Pier/LA Priest has teamed up with Connan Mockasin in what is proving to be a match made in music heaven. The chemistry is most definitely right on Lying Has To Stop, a track taken from their eponymous album (due October via Weird World) that comes complete with plenty of real talk and a soapy shower climax. These two are wizards.

    Sylvan Esso, Radio

North Carolina duo Sylvan Esso return with a song that bodes extremely well for their upcoming second album. It’s propulsive and infectious and you can get it on 12″ from November (serious anti-video too).

    Deap Vally, Gonnawanna

As they prepare to release their Femejism LP, the new video from LA’s Deap Vally is possibly a comment on that fact that people should be able to wear whatever the fuck they want on beaches… possibly. You’re gonnawanna watch this.

    Jack KILLEN, Symphony of Skin

Moral decay? Check. End-of-the-world drums? Check. There’s more than a hint of 80s Cohen about this blast of icy synthpop by former WORKOUT man, Jack KILLEN. We only heard it about 10 minutes ago but it’s so good we decided to chuck it in (first he takes i-D’s music round-up, then he takes Berlin).

    Sporting Life, Hydrate The Hustle

RATKING member Sporting Life traverses nocturnal New York in the first video from three part EP series Slam Dunk. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for collabs with Dev Hynes, Novelist and fellow RATKING member Wiki over the next couple of months (we will be).
