“I came here to present my new video, but before that Imma talk,” said Kanye at tonight’s VMAs.
So, before we get to the video, a quick list of his talking points: Taylor Swift (“I love all of y’all. That’s why I called her.”). His “Famous” video, which he humbly admitted would probably lose the Video of the Year Award to Beyoncé’s”Formation” before declaring the “audacity” of his own creative direction. And the importance of role models (his own: “Truman, Ford, Hughes, Disney, Jobs, West”). Then, after shoutouts to his wife, his idol Puff Daddy, and “the future,” aka Chance the Rapper, Ye unveiled “a piece of [his] art,” the video for TLOP track “Fade.”
The video stars Harlem-born singer and GOOD signee Teyana Taylor executing an instantly iconic Flashdance-inspired routine and getting steamy in the shower with her fiancé, NBA player Iman Shumpert. Watch the whole thing here, on Tidal.
Spoiler alert: In the final frame, Teyana appears with a cat’s face along with her family and also a family of sheep. A cat’s face. A family of sheep. Last year at the VMAs, Kanye announced his presidential campaign and this video is still more amazing.
