Beetlejuice is one of those films that lends itself well to a musical adaptation: the extravagant sets would look fantastic in a theatre, and it’s already got two wonderful musical moments—the disastrous dinner party overtaken by Harry Belafonte’s Day-O, and Winona Ryder’s Jump In The Line renditionat the end of the film.

Now, as the New York Post have it, that’s exactly what’s going to happen! Warner Bros. are in discussions with with Tony Award-winning director Alex Timbers to bring Beetlejuice to Broadway. The adaptation would debut in the 2018-2019 season, so there’s no word on casting yet.

Of course, this isn’t the only Beetlejuice revival on the horizon. There has been much talk of Winona and Michael Keaton reuniting for a sequel, which Tim Burton is on board with too. “It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances,” Burton said last year, “but it’s one of those films where it has to be right.” Later, Wynona confirmed it was definitely going ahead on Late Night with Seth Myers. Wonder which project we’ll get to watch first!
