Part Rosemary’s Baby, part Obvious Child with a bit of Alien thrown in for good measure — Chloë Sevigny and Natasha Lyonne’s gory new film Antibirth is taking maternity in a new direction. When Natasha’s character Lou, a party girl who hasn’t had sex in months, discovers she’s pregnant she sets out with her pal Sadie (Chloë Sevigny) to try to unravel what happened. If that scenario wasn’t unsettling enough, soon her body begins to go through some seriously nightmarish transformations. The Danny Perez-directed film has been compared to David Cronenberg’s early body horror offerings, the X- Files and 1974 campy horror It’s Alive. Although the Guardian’s Jordan Hoffman was more direct, simply calling it, “epically fucked-up.” One thing is certain: you have our attention.
