Chance the Rapper left hometown fans a little upset this year after leaving Chicago out of his upcoming Coloring Book tour. It was certainly uncharacteristic, given Chance’s vocal support for, and pride in, the city he grew up in. Turns out he’s had something planned this entire time —and it’s much bigger than a headline show.
He’s throwing an entire festival in the city, and the lineup is stacked. Hip-hop heavies like Lil Wayne, Tyler the Creator, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, and 2 Chainz are all set to perform, as are soul stars Alicia Keys and John Legend. Skrillex is on the bill too, so it’s a genuine mixed bag. It’ll be held in a baseball park, home of the Chicago White Sox. Straight after announcing the festival, the rapper picked up his first VMA nomination (for “Angels”). It’s safe to say it’s a good time to be Lil Chano.
