Reflecting on how the relentless pace the industry distorts our appreciation of the seasons, Astrid takes stock for spring/summer 17. “When we design, we’re so out of sync with the actual seasons,” she explained backstage. On a recent trip to Toronto, a frozen Niagra Falls inspired an easy, breezy spring/summer collection that will be sold next winter. “It made me question the system, why aren’t we listening to nature? Nature defines the seasons but we don’t listen.”

While snakeskin, gold detailing, and the continued use of Sophie Halette lace ensure an element of the exotic, Astrid blurs lines between the outdated product categories of formal wear, leisure wear, and evening wear more than ever whilst marking the debut of Astrid Andersen womenswear. “It’s just business. I’ve wanted to concentrate on menswear for so long but we’ve always had requests to do women’s and now it just feels right.” The range will be available to retailers within the pre-collection buying and delivery windows but, in a frozen Niagra moment, will forever sit alongside the menswear as a united vision. “We want to become a proper brand now, we just want to grow,” she smiles. This is a swaggering Astrid, taking yet another step forward.
