Is it too late to say sorry? It might be for Justin Bieber and Skrillex, who are reportedly being sued over the duo’s 2015 smash hit, “Sorry.” Claiming the Biebs and co. borrowed musical elements, including “unique characteristics of the female vocal riff,” from her song “Ring the Bell,” singer Casey Dienel aka White Hinterland has called in the lawyers and is currently threatening legal action.

Taking to Facebook, the singer expressed her frustration over successful stars exploiting the raw talent of lesser-known musicians: “Creating original and unique music is my life’s passion, but it is challenging and time consuming. I poured my blood, sweat, and tears into writing and producing ‘Ring the Bell,’ and I am proud of the finished product, which Rolling Stone listed as one of its ‘favorite songs, albums, and videos.’ Throughout my career, I have worked very hard to preserve my independence and creative control, thus it came as a shock to hear my work used and exploited without permission.”

According to Dienel, her lawyers contacted Bieber’s legal team back in December but to no avail. So, yes, it probably is too late to say sorry. You can make your own mind up by checking out White Hinterland’s track “Ring the Bell,” below.
