Andy Warhol is most synonymous with the 60s and his Silver Factory era, but the pop art icon was prolific right up until his death in early 1987. Some of the most recognizable explorations of art and celebrity are his photographs of the A-list entourage that followed him from the Factory years through to the high fashion hedonism that gripped New York City in the 80s. A bunch of those photographs are now up for auction through Artnet. The sale features photos of Warhol’s fellow art and entertainment luminaries including Yoko Ono, David Hockney, Jane Fonda, Grace Jones, Mick and Bianca Jagger, Truman Capote, Bette Midler, and Karl Lagerfeld. There are even a few pre-Instagram selfies from the OG innovator of constant self-documentation.
The photographs span the decade from 1977 through to the months before Warhol’s death in NYC on February 22, 1987. If you’ve got somewhere between $3,000 and $10,000 to spend on a new piece of wall decor, the auction is live through May 4. Otherwise check out a few of the best below.
