This southern rave capital isn't where you'd expect, and it's more wavy than you can imagine.

Where are the best parties in the world right now? New York, sure. Berlin, obviously. Australia, not so much given everyone’s getting locked out of clubs before they’ve actually had time to leave the house. What about New Zealand? Turns out things are getting pretty wild in Wellington.

Everyone knows everyone in Welly, any kid there will testify to that. They’ll also swear it’s the best city in New Zealand. Maybe they’re right. It is the most southern capital city in the world, and that isolation has bred something very good after dark.

A crew led by Olly De Salis are putting on mental raves in houses, carparks and once, on a boat. They call them 121 parties, ’cause that’s the address of the sharehouse where it all started. They’ve had to switch it up since those days: a few weeks ago more than 1,000 kids filled up an underground carpark with a celling low enough people were starting to crouch. The boat also filled up, helped by a huge lineup of thee city’s waviest young DJs, singers and rappers, none older than 25. Here’s a photo dispatch from the high seas that night, because you probably weren’t lucky enough to be there.
