Studio Ghibli soundtracks like you've never heard them before — as interpreted by Seoul-based collective Pute Deluxe.

Korean record label, DJ collective, and club night Pute Deluxe — yes, it’s French for “high class prostitute” — has been entertaining the cool kids of Seoul since it formed in 2014. Having recently launched its own streetwear line PDLX, the collective is showing no signs of slowing down and we’re into what it’s doing.

Celebrating the iconic work of Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli, director Hayao Miyazaki and his legendary soundtracker Joe Hisaishi (from who the EP takes its name), Pute Deluxe and its friends from across the world have come together to work on an album of tracks inspired by the much-loved movies. Sampling recognizable sounds from the films, the tracks — curated by Pute Deluxe member Yann Cavaille — begin with the Spirited Away theme “Always With You” before adventuring through far off lands with the kodama tree spirits of Princess Mononoke and diving deep into the blue with Ponyo before flying through the sky with Totoro to the sounds of sedated happy hardcore. We’re completely obsessed.

If you happen to be in Seoul, we highly recommend you get down to Cakeshop on Friday, April 22 for the launch party of this very special EP. If you can’t make it, get stuck into the above and help yourself to a free download courtesy of the lovely folks at Pute Deluxe.
