Since 1988, the British Fashion Council has provided MA scholarships to help support the young talents of the fashion world on their way from education through to making it in the industry. Now the BFC have announced they will also be offering BA scholarships and have revealed the first students to receive the support.
Cavan McPherson, Pip Paz-Howlett and Jake Treddenick are the three dedicated and exceptionally talented students to have been selected to receive the BFC Education Foundation BA Scholarship 2016. McPherson specialises in womenswear at Manchester School of Art, Paz-Howlett specialises in Menswear at University of Westminster and Treddenick is studying womenswear at London College of Fashion.
All scholarships have been awarded to contribute towards living expenses and support the costs of creating their final collections, ensuring that gifted young designers have the opportunity to learn the needed skills regardless of their financial situation. “Being able to support student talent financially is one of the most important and exciting missions of the British Fashion Council. In the interview process it is incredibly rewarding to start relationships with creative people with fresh ideas which will form the future,” says Sarah Mower MBE, co-president of the BFC Education Pillar.
The work of the three designers will be on display at the BFC Colleges Council Graduate Preview Day, taking place on Friday 13 May at the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design.
