The good part about playing someone in a biopic about their life while the person is still alive is that you don’t need their permission. The difficult part is that you probably want it, especially if you’re set to portray the universally beloved and unapologetically sassy Adele. Rebel Wilson quickly learned this on Monday night at Adele’s sold-out gig at London’s O2 arena. Learning that Wilson was rumored as the potential lead for a very mysterious, probably very premature Adele biopic, the 27-year-old ballad queen shut down the whispers in about ten seconds flat.
“I’ve heard there are rumors about Rebel Wilson playing me in a movie – let’s see if that turns out to be true,” Adele reportedly told the crowd. “She’d need my fucking permission. Just because I’m plus-sized doesn’t mean she’s playing me”.
Rebel took the high road in a friendly follow-up tweet, confirming her love for Adele is still fully in-tact. And while Adele’s response might seem a bit brutal, she has every right to be pissed at such an obviously size-based casting rumor. Ditto with the suggestion that she’s not going to accomplish anything movie-worthy after the age of 27?
