Curators of online channel Don’t Watch That, directors of Skepta’s Mobo award-winning That’s Not Me video, and photographers of iconic grime imagery including Dizzee’s Maths + English album cover, Tim and Barry have played a key part in documenting the growth of grime (and surrounding cultures including footwork) for the past 15 years. The cut-n-paste creative of Just Jam, which is live-streamed, has gone from a calm-n-casual night at Alibi, to a sold out shoobs at the Barbican in just over five years. Taking over the main hall last year, the night included Novelist, JME, Omar Souleymann and General Levy, who turned the art venue upside down. In true Tim and Barry style, the event was complimented by live visuals designed and created by the pair in collaboration with everyone from Natalia Stuyk, Aaron Chan and Daniel Swan.
For their next Just Jam, the two are preparing to takeover the Electric in Brixton on the 29 April. As well as D Double E, Darq E Freaker and Ratking, the night reunites seminal grime crew Ruff Sqwad, and introduces new talent including Riz La Teef. “The line up’s banging, for obvious reasons like D Double E – who has appeared on the show more than any other artist – as far as we can remember,” Tim tells i-D. ” We also have the whole of Ruff Sqwad on Just Jam for the first time, and we’re flying over Ratking from New York. Just as exciting are some of the up and coming artists like Riz La Teef who has the best name, killer dubs and mixes, BBC AZN Network whose 100BPM set at the Radar Radio x Just Jam blew our minds, plus we have Crack Stevens b2b with newcomers Tim and Barry who are definitely ones to watch…!”
To celebrate the night, Tim and Barry have created the following videos, shown here today exclusively on i-D.
