Designer, photographer, i-D fave, and all-round-Russian-wunderkind Gosha Rubchinskiy has been announced as special guest designer at Pitti Uomo’s 90th anniversary event in Florence next season.
Taking place in June — between London Collections: Men and Milan Fashion Week (Mens) — the biannual trade show traditionally invites a designer to hold special presentation each season. Gosha — who launched his much acclaimed, subversive Soviet chic label back in 2008 — is the latest in a line that includes Moschino, Hood By Air, and this January’s genderless affair by Juun.J.
“I wanted to do something unexpected,” the designer told BoF. “A Russian designer showing streetwear at Pitti — that’s definitely something people don’t expect to see.” Add to this the news that he’ll also be launching a special photography project alongside the 2017 collection, and you get the feeling that Russia’s Fashion Revolution isn’t slowing down any time soon.
