Drop everything, Venkman. The first trailer for Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters is here and it looks like New York is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions yet again (real wrath of God type stuff). Featuring the much trumpeted all female line-up of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, the short clip opens with a re-jigged version of Ray Parker Jr’s original theme and Wiig’s character revealing that “someone has created a device that has amplified paranormal activity and we might be the only ones who can stop it.” Oh and there’s ectoplasmic residue. Lot’s of ectoplasmic residue.
The reboot has not been without it’s own ghoulish detractors, of course, with Wiig describing her “surprise” last year that there was so much controversy surrounding the all female cast: “I think the fact that people keep asking about it implies that it’s something we need to explain or defend,” she said. “If [people] would watch movies or look at comedy and see how many talented, funny women are out there and have been since the beginning of time, people would stop asking about that.” We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: women are funny, get over it.
