Grime’s British Invasion continues today with news of Stormzy’s debut tour of the U.S. and Canada. Just like the British Invasion of the 1960s, when an America rocked by the Kennedy assassination pined for something foreign, exciting and new, the sound of young Britain is becoming increasingly recognised by powerful figures across the Atlantic (none less than October’s Very Own Drake — who joined both Skepta and Section Boys on stage in Shoreditch last week). Stormzy’s four-date run kicks off in Toronto on 19 March, before concluding on 24 March in San Francisco, and what’s more he’ll be among the new artists playing a heap of shows at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas from 16 — 19 March. Forget the hype, North America, just come out the yard.
