marques’almeida fall/winter 16 shows us a reality worth dreaming about

Marques'Almeida channel real girl attitude as they cast their friends and family to walk their fall/winter 16 show.

Walking to a booming soundtrack of Beyonce’s “7/11” and Rihanna’s Tame Impala cover from ANTi, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida’s girl this season felt familiar, felt honest, and felt real. “We’ve had more time to think things through, to think about what we want, and I think it shows,” Marta explained to i-D in between celebratory hugs and kisses post show. This was a collection that oozed ease, from gingham shirts paired with tie-dye slip dresses, oversized sweatshirts on top of button up shirts and banana yellow jersey jumpsuits, the collection had a purposeful deconstruction of the complexity of women’s wardrobes. This was a dedication to real women, and a collection inspired and dedicated to girls whose clothes need to work as hard as they do.

While the pair haven’t completely abandoned their denim days, the duo worked out of their comfort zones and explored separates in net-style fabric, wool and shearling fur to stunning effect; pieces collectively had a mix ‘n’ match quality that a girl confident in her own self and style will love. To this end Marta and Paulo cast young creatives who orbit the Marques’Almeida world (including two i-D editors) to walk the show, instead of professional models. The Marques’Almeida narrative remains the same though: be young, be free, do what you love, and look great doing it!
