The First Monday in May is a new documentary that will shed light on one of the most exclusive fashion events of the year. Based on last year’s Met Ball, Andrew Rossi’s fly on the wall documentary follows the footsteps of Vogue Editor, Anna Wintour, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute curator, Andrew Bolton, as they meticulously plan and put together the final touches to the legendary annual gala, as it marks the opening of the Met’s spring exhibition.
Last year’s theme China: Through The Looking Glass was controversial to say the least, generating numerous conversations about cultural appropriation and racial stereotyping, made worse by the on going discussions about diversity or lack thereof within fashion. Addressing his fears of it being perceived as thus, the film’s trailer shows Bolton flag up the various “political hurdles” they will have to face. Elsewhere, the trailer features Karl Lagerfeld musing about fashion as an artform, as well as behind the scenes footage of the event itself, starring Bad Gal Riri and Justin Bieber. With a trailer that juicy, the documentary itself promises to be mega.
The First Monday in May will open the Tribeca Film Festival on 13, April 2016.
