It’s been four months since Lana dropped the black and white and underwater film for long-awaited track “Music To Watch Boys To.” Now she’s back, teaming up with Father John Misty for a 10 minute epic that includes Honeymoon track “Freak,” followed by five minutes of Claude Debussy’s “Claire de Lune” accompanied by the white-wearing water babes of “Music To Watch Boys To.”
“Baby, if you wanna leave / Come to California, be / A freak like me too,” Del Rey sings in the refrain, the visuals saturated like a sundrenched acid trip, with girls in white surrounding Father John Misty like cult followers. Reclaiming her crown as the ultimate Sad Girl, Lana’s lyrics lament, “You’re cold as ice, baby / But when you’re nice baby / You’re so amazing in every way.” She takes a hazy cliff walk down to the beach as Misty transforms into a lonely clip of Lana listening to a record player alone, singing, “We could slow dance to rock music / Kiss while we do it.”
