‘cruel intentions’ is getting a remake but not how you remember it

NBC has ordered a TV series pilot about the salacious 90s move as a…musical parody?

It’s fair to say that it’s a “bittersweet symphony” that Cruel Intentions is getting a remake. Why? Well, before you grab your rosary beads/coke vial and shortest school uniform, it’s important to mention that NBC has ordered a TV series pilot as a…musical parody?

Though the semi-incestuous 90s teen classic had an essential soundtrack to our coming of age, it’s hard to imagine a modern-day anything to the tune of Marcy Playground, Counting Crows, Placebo, Fatboy Slim and that one damn The Verve song, but we’re sure excited for it.

According to Deadline, “NBC’s Cruel Intentions follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove. Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.”

The original film, which famously featured a same-sex kiss and an interracial relationship, not only paved the way for tackling homophobia and racism on-screen, but for the careers of Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, Kris Kardashian portrayer Selma Blair, and heartthrob 1999—forever, Ryan Phillippe.

    ‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony this life…
